Three new nature reserves for Maidstone
Natural England has approved three new nature reserves for Maidstone at Allington Millennium Green, Fant and the combined site of Weavering Heath, Five Acre and Wents Wood.
Maidstone Borough Councils’ Parks and Open Spaces Team applied for the new nature reserves which brings the total to six for the borough.
Nature Reserves are open to the public welcoming all visitors to connect with nature and be inspired by the fantastic wildlife, habitats, geology and landscapes.
Nationally they were first established to protect some of the UK’s most important habitats, species and geology, and to encourage learning.
Chris Passmore the Liberal Democrat candidate for Maidstone Central division in the upcomming by-election said:
“I am delighted that over 4 hectares of open space have now been given additional protection as nature reserves with the Maidstone Central Division.
These spaces are not only essential for wildlife but also for the well being of local residents who can observe and enjoy the natural environment within a few minutes walk of our homes, rather than having to get in a car.
The MBC Parks and Open Spaces team should be congratulated for their hard work in getting these nature reserves approved to add to the three in Maidstone that are already classified as nature reserves.”
