About Chris

Chris first came to Maidstone in the 1960s and returned in 1987 after leaving the Royal Navy. He rejoined his family’s printing business, settling first in Coxheath and later moving to Barming, where he still lives today.

From the Navy to Business

Chris began his career in the Royal Navy, where he served both as First Lieutenant on a minesweeper, helping enforce fishing laws in UK waters and then as the Navigating Officer of a frigate doing operational patrols in the Middle East.

After leaving the Navy, Chris joined his family printing business and later started his own successful management systems consultancy which supported businesses across Kent with ISO Management Systems, covering quality, environmental, and health & safety services, which now employs five staff.

Community Involvement

Chris has always been passionate about giving back to the community. Over the years, he has:

  • Served as a School Governor
  • Co-led a Church Youth Group with his wife
  • Helped organise professional training events for the printing and HR sectors
  • Been an active member of Barming Parish Council
  • Supported local youth groups including Maidstone Sea Cadets and Barming Youth Football Club.

Political Career

Chris became more politically active after the 2019 General Election, working closely with County Councillor Dan Daley. After Dan’s passing, Chris was elected as County Councillor for Maidstone Central in the 2021 by-election.

He has since built a reputation for being hard-working and approachable, using his negotiation skills to help resolve local issues—especially around:

  • Highway problems
  • Local bus services
  • River Medway pollution
  • The Village Green Application for Bunyards Farm
  • Working to Protect Barming Woods, an important ancient woodland from the potential expansion of the Hermitage Quarry.

Out and About

Chris is a keen cyclist and enjoys being out in the community. You’ll likely spot him riding around Maidstone Central Division in the lead-up to the upcoming election.
