Simon Wales

Cllr. Simon Wales

Maidstone Rural West Division

Simon was born in Kent, and after living for time outside of Kent he returned and once again made his home in Maidstone.

His early profession was information technology and data management, but for 12 years he served as a Councillor on Sutton Borough Council earning a reputation as a tough and effective Deputy Leader.

He was lead member for finance and the voluntary sector, and had particular skills in relation to highways, transport and local engagement.

Since returning to Kent, he has been working with the local Liberal Democrat team for a number of years and was elected to represent Loose and Linton Ward in May 2024. He is now the Cabinet Member for housing and homelessness. He deals regularly with highways, planning, parking and other issues in the ward and attends both Loose and Linton Parish Councils.

Simon is a trustee of the Linton Alms-houses and of Citizens Advice Maidstone and is on the committee of Making a Dementia Friendly Maidstone. He is also Chair of the Cob tree Manor Estate Charity Committee and is also an active member of the Maidstone Beauvais Twinning Association where his degree in modern languages has been useful!
