
Tony Harwood
Maidstone Central Division
Tony was born, educated, works, and has lived his whole life in Maidstone. His family roots go back many generations in the County Town.
His professional background is in emergency planning and response, but he has also worked in agriculture, television and the paper industry. He has had prominent roles within the responses to many major incidents in Kent and beyond.
He has represented North, East and Penenden Heath Wards since first being elected to Maidstone Borough Council in 1989. Tony is a uniquely experienced, really understands how KCC and government departments operate, and is a tough and effective local councillor, widely respected for his environmental and public health campaigns.
Tony was a founder trustee of the Vinters Valley Park Local Nature Reserve, and conceived and helped establish the River Len, Buckland Hill and Boxley Warren Nature Reserves. He has led high-profile campaigns tackling river pollution, fly-tipping, untaxed and abandoned vehicles, disposable vapes and Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas).
Tony has dedicated his entire adult life to practical action for Maidstone, Kent and its diverse communities. He is steadfast in his determination to address the many challenges currently facing the County Town and its surrounding countryside.
