Simon was elected to represent Loose and Linton Ward in May 2024. He deals regularly with highways, planning, parking and other issues in the ward and attends both Loose and Linton Parish Councils. He is a trustee of the Linton Almshouses and of Citizens Advice Maidstone, and is on the committee of Making a Dementia Friendly Maidstone.

He is one of the eight cabinet members at Maidstone Borough Council - his portfolio being Housing and Homelessness. He sits on the Licensing Committee, and has chaired licensing hearings. He is also Chair of the Cobtree Manor Estate Charity Committee and is also an active member of the Maidstone Beauvais Twinning Association where his degree in modern languages has been useful!.

He is a volunteer guide for the National Trust at both Stoneacre and Sissinghurst Castle Garden.
