John Howson: a Liberal Democrat Winner for Weald of Kent

Sir Ed Davey and Cllr John Howson
Post Office

Meet John

Cllr John Howson, Lib Dem Candidate for Weald of Kent.

A Liberal Democrat Councillor on Oxfordshire County Council since 2013, I am currently the Cabinet member for Children, Education and Families. I have fought 5 general elections for the Liberal Democrats. In 2019, I fought Castle Point in Essex, virtually the safest Conservative seat at Westminster, and both increased the Lib Dem vote and saved the deposit despite only being asked to fight the seat 6 weeks before the election.

I joined the former Liberal Party in 1966, and am a Vice President of the Liberal Democrat Education Association and am part of the team advising the Party’s Education spokesperson at Westminster. My other interests are in the Justice system (I was a magistrate for 20 years) and transport.

The Conservative Government:

1. Trashed the NHS with record GP and hospital waiting times

2. Created a cost of living crisis

3. Betrayed our farmers and growers

4. Created a housing crisis for our young people

5. Swamped our rivers with sewage

6. Bungled immigration and Brexit

7. And lost the respect of voters
